Mingle is a free swipe app for anyone who wants to make friends in New York without shouting over a bar or guessing whether someone is single. You set your city to New York, pick Friends or Dating mode, and swipe through profiles of people in the same city. It is strictly 18 and over, and matching is city-level only — Mingle never asks for precise GPS or your address, so you stay in control of exactly where you are. When the chat turns into a real plan, easy options are everywhere here: a coffee in a village café, a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, an afternoon at a museum, or a picnic in Central Park.

How it works

Sign up with a first name, your age and your city, then choose at least three interests so your deck leans toward people you would actually click with. Swipe right to like, left to pass, up for a Super Like, and back if you change your mind. When someone likes you back you match, and the chat opens with suggested conversation starters so the first message is not just "hey". Filters cover age, distance and shared interests only — Mingle deliberately has no race, ethnicity, nationality or religion filters, so discovery stays fair. Everything runs in your browser and installs as an app on your phone, so the New York friends app you open on the train is the same one you open at home.

Is Mingle free?

Yes. Creating a profile, swiping, matching and chatting are all free, in both Friends and Dating mode. The app is funded by clearly labeled advertising and by a small number of partner links on the "Plan the hang" screen; you choose whether non-essential cookies are used when you first open Mingle, and picking "Essential only" never removes any feature. There is nothing to cancel and no card to enter.

Safety first

Meet in a public place for a first hang — a busy café, a museum lobby, a well-used park — and tell a friend where you are going and when you will be back. Keep messages inside Mingle until you are comfortable, and never send money to someone you have only met in chat. Every profile has a report button 🚨 with specific reasons, including "Under 18", and a block button 🚫; Mingle is 18+ only and underage accounts are removed. Your location stays at city level, so sharing your city is not the same as sharing your street.
